Queer längtan
At
Outdoor Malmö Live (Sve) 2021.
Queer longing
What do you long for?
Queer längtan is based on what lgbtqia+ persons long for. It uncovers dreams, sadness, frustation, desire and what everyday life contains. The artwork are partly made of a used parachute, that have been used in sports where the user surrvived. The parachute is a tool of rescue and the fight for lgbtqia+ rights are still an act of lifesaving.
The artwork was made for Malmö Pride 2021. It was made to be a site-specific outdoor art piece in a public space. It was showed in august 2021 during Malmö Pride. The piece was hanging 3-4 meter up over a walking path. To the textile installation it was also a sign with a word list with all the queer longing sentences. During my research I asked lgbtqia+ persons in different SoMe groups if they wanted to share their longing with me. Their words was my foundation for the work. For me it was important to work with the theme because I wanted to make the life of queer people visible. Both for the community (for us to connect to each other) and for others to get a glimpse in to our lives. What you long for exposes a lot; dreams, frustrations, desire and what effects you in your everyday life and what you wish would be different. It also have a movement towards something that will happen. I find that very interesting.
